Dones Visuals Round Table
New generation of women Catalan filmmakers?
Does a generational union necessarily imply the birth of a cinematic movement?
This round table focuses on the new generation of Catalan filmmakers and aims to uncover the thematic, stylistic and production links between their works while also questioning the narrative proposed by the media to define this "wave" of new creators. Based on the interventions of Laura Ferrés, Liliana Torres, Celia Rico, and Elena Molina, and moderated by Anna Petrus, the table will become both a space to celebrate the successes of the films and their creators, as well as a critical space in relation to the homogenization of trends by social and media discourse.
Dones Visuals, co-organizer of the session, is the association of women filmmakers in Catalonia established in 2017. It serves as a meeting, debate, and training space for women and dissident identities in all professions of the audiovisual sector, aiming to contribute to the construction of a more equal society. Thus, it fosters equitable representation among women and men, and promotes the diversity and inclusion of perspectives from individuals who are socially and historically made invisible and discriminated against, whether due to gender, sexual orientation, race, origin, ethnicity, age, purchasing power, religion, disability/diversity functional and/or intellectual in the audiovisual medium.
